Cardiac Catheterization and Coronary Angiography

The vessels that feed the heart's own muscle tissue are called "coronary vessels". Although protective measures are taken, if there are complaints suggesting that there is stenosis in the coronary vessels or if a defect is detected in the pre-tests (exercise test, stress echocardisography, thallium test, etc.), cardiac catheterization and coronary angiography are performed to determine the location and degree of this stenosis. In case of critical stenosis, treatment options may be balloon angioplasty-stent or by-pass surgery.
Coronary angiography is safely performed on the groin (femoral artery) and wrist (radial artery) in the Angiography Laboratory. Balloon Angioplasty-Stent ApplicationIt is the process of opening the stenosis detected in the coronary vessels in the Angiography laboratory with an intravascular balloon and/or stent. After being followed up for one night, the patient can be discharged without complications and can return to his previous activities in a short time.
During heart attack (Acute Myocardial Infarction); Emergency Coronary Balloon and Stent Intervention
A heart attack occurs when the coronary vessels are suddenly blocked. With the occlusion of the coronary artery, the heart muscle tissue is damaged. In order to minimize this damage, clot-dissolving (thrombolytic) drugs or balloon and stent application should be performed urgently. Both of these treatment methods are successfully applied in our department, and then the patients are followed up in the coronary intensive care unit until they become stable again.
Closure of the Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) with the catheter method
PFO is a valve-like hole in the wall between the right and left atria of the heart that occurs due to insufficient closure of the membrane that should close after birth. In the presence of PFO, in situations that increase intrathoracic pressure such as coughing, sneezing, straining, the valve may open and blood may pass between the atria. When blood passes from the right atrium to the left atrium via the PFO without passing through the lung's filter system, small clots in the blood can travel to the brain and other organs, causing a stroke and organ infarction. In our department, angiography can be closed in our laboratory with a method similar to PFO angiography.

Temporary Pacemaker

In some cases, temporary blocks of the heart or serious slowdowns in heart rate may develop. These conditions sometimes resolve spontaneously. A temporary pacemaker can be inserted over the inguinal or neck vein, similar to angiography, in order to maintain the patient's rhythm and continue his life until he recovers.

Rhythm Holter

Diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders are planned in this section. For diagnosis, ECG recording is required at the time of arrhythmia. Rhythm Holter is used for this purpose. Follow-up of pacemaker patients and pacemaker checks are also done here.

Catheter Ablation

There are different types of rhythm disorders that cause tachycardia. These disorders are caused by electrical abnormalities in different parts of the heart. A tissue that should not be present in the normal heart is responsible for the abnormal electricity. As in coronary angiography, these tissues are found and destroyed with wires called catheters that are advanced from the inguinal veins to the heart. This process is called catheter ablation. Radiofrequency or cooling system is used to destroy the abnormal tissue.
Catheter ablation is performed with an electrophysiology device. It is a procedure that requires an overnight stay for follow-up purposes. It is done with local anesthesia. It is applied with a high success rate for many rhythm disorders.
Transthoracic (through the chest) Echocardiography
It is an examination with a gel over the chest wall with an ultrasound-like device. With this procedure performed by the cardiologist himself, the walls of the heart, heart valves, and great vessels can be examined. No exposure to x-rays during the procedure. It can be applied to people of all ages without any side effects.

Transesophageal Echocardiography

It is an examination similar to gastroscopy. The probe of the echo device is swallowed orally and takes ultrasound of the heart through the esophagus. In the examination performed in this way, intracardiac cavities can be evaluated much better since there are no lungs between heart valves and lungs. In some cases, it can also be applied in case of very insufficient images in the examination performed on the chest.

Effort Test

It is a test used in the detection of coronary artery diseases, determination of effort capacity, routine controls of people with known coronary artery diseases. This test is performed under the supervision of an experienced nurse and cardiologist.

Continuous ECG and regular blood pressure measurement of the patient, which is carried out on a tape that is accelerated and inclined in accordance with certain rules, is performed.
Stress Echocardiography
Stress echocardiography is an echocardiography application performed with exercise methods or drugs that accelerate the heartbeat.
